KJ & Son Woodworks

Handmade in Oregon City, Oregon

Made by hand for the kitchen you cook in.

Cutting boards, knife holders and small home goods in walnut, maple, cherry and white oak. Kimberly and her son Nathan build every piece in their Oregon City shop, a few at a time.

Why we build this way

What touches your food matters.

Plastic boards get scored with every cut, and those scratches can end up as tiny flecks in whatever you're chopping. Hardwood holds up, and end grain even closes back around light knife marks. A good board can be sanded and oiled for decades.

No plastic, no laminate

Every piece is solid hardwood. No plastic core, no veneer, and no coating that can chip off into food.

A finish you can cook on

We finish with a food-safe oil and wax. No lacquer, no varnish, and nothing that needs a warning label.

Nothing goes to waste

Offcuts from the big boards come back as coasters, trivets and page holders instead of going in the bin.

The walnut brick board

Walnut end grain laid in a running bond, with a thin line of maple between every block. End grain is easier on a knife edge than a flat-sawn board, and it hides wear better too.

Board care from the people who made it

A board that gets oiled once a month will outlast the kitchen it lives in. We sell the same oil and wax we finish with, plus a refresh kit for boards that have gone dry.
